Brazil’s government has announced that starting July 3 it will require electronic tax receipts for the buying and selling of gold in a move to crack down on illegal mining in the Amazon.

Currently, gold is sold with paper receipts based on the “good faith” of the seller, making it often impossible to trace its origin.

Between 2015 and 2020, Brazil traded 229 tonnes of gold with evidence of illegality, equivalent to almost half of the gold produced and exported by the country, according to a report from NGO Instituto Escolhas.

Rates still slowly easing with the 10 yr now challenging below 3.5% so we’re going to take a shot at $2K in the futures market.

I remember a whole lot of days when gold would be down in the overnights and NOT make a recovery, and watched the selling get worse as the day wore on. Actually, I’d venture that happens about 98% of the time.

Nice to see the change of trend.

The USD is still flat, a little surprising as financial TV is going on about the USD being replaced in foreign trade. India now willing to trade in Rupee and other currencies.

What did the President of Kenya know is coming in a few weeks?

Gold all the way back to flat. Pretty impressive, since it was down $20 in the overnights. Silver is the weak sister, but it’s more than halved earlier losses as well.

We are getting into overbought territory but still pretty strong.

Bitcoin is all over the place – $300 either way of flat. Doing a back n’ forth.

We’ve been down all night, off the lows but still down a bit.

USD is higher this am up .25%, the 10 yr. is up 7 bips, so those are the headwinds.

SM futures are mixed, with the DOW up a little but the Nasdaq down over 1/2%.

We’ll see if they can hold us down all day. There is a ton of eco news this week, including the jobs report Friday. No doubt they’ll move markets.

edit: Not sure what got into Bitcoin, but it’s up a few hundy’s after being down a few hundred most of the night.

Very good summation. The way the airlines are going maybe going back to traveling by car is best option. A friends husband said air planes are nothing but metal tubes they crowd as much people they can in then shoot them through the air, lol lol That’s about right though.

Fact is, derailments happen all the time.  But on rare occasion they are spectacularly bad, and then the media focuses on each and every one they can find.  They are costly for the railroads and they really do try to prevent them.  Did you know… when a train is stopped in a siding while waiting for an opposing train to come by, a crew member is required to leave the cab and stand trackside to inspect the passing train for defects and problems?
