Submerged sub headed for the titanic

A lot of miles to find it. Why don’t they time how many miles they travel per hour and track from where they lost communication as a starting point including how far they could travel from there either way? I don’t know what their doing.
What did they intend to gain when they already know where it is and how it sunk.
