Even then if you survived all power would be out and what would be your food supply once storage ran out with everything contaminated and most livestock killed.
Another problem with life terms in politics. They grow old know their time is near anyways mixed with only caring about themselves and war on the people and perpetual wars with reckless regard now poking the bears.
