I met one once playing pool with some friends he was close to where I was and started talking to me and the subject came up and he took his job seriously as far as safety. I don’t think those 3 pilots were breaking rules for safety but showing off and having fun. On the other end of that I or not just I lost my child doctor because of poor traffic controllers in the Canary Islands where he and his wife were on vacation in the 70s. You didn’t have doctors like that anymore that I knew of. He let people usually fathers do work for him for medical care for their kids if the didn’t have insurance as a option. Not that he couldn’t afford to hire people but helped them out with barter instead of cash. His wife also perished with him. As luck goes his son was supposed to go but broke his leg so stayed behind. Also knew though a friend later her husband lost his mom on that same flight.
A few years back I saw something on TV about equity by giving undertrained inexperienced minority’s as commercial air traffic controllers. That was real comforting to know.
As far as that trainer he got what he deserved. How did he know that stick wasn’t going to wind up through a windshield of a car somewhere or hit someone or if something went wrong and he would of needed it. I could see his purpose to make him feel he’s doing it alone and will get no help but was a reckless way to do it. He just realized he was dealing with his own who got one up in him.
