Nassim Nicholas Taleb is famous for writing The Black Swan, but these days he’s warning of a white swan, a risk that rather than being rare is somewhat more probable—and in this case coming for America’s economy. Like an increasing number of economic observers, Taleb says the cause of this calamity-in-plain-sight is the federal budget deficit. He says it’s swelling by such an extent that it would take a miracle to duck the damage that’s on the way. And he’s not alone. Taleb joined former US Treasury Secretary Robert Rubin and BlackRock Vice Chairman Philipp Hildebrand in sounding the alarm over consequences stemming from exploding debt—let alone default—and what that could mean for the dollar’s global status. “So long as you have Congress keep extending the debt limit and doing deals because they’re afraid of the consequences of doing the right thing…eventually you’re going to have a debt spiral,” Taleb said. “And a debt spiral is like a death spiral.”
Some strategists over at JPMorgan are warning that the domination of US equity markets by the 10 biggest stocks is starting to invite comparisons to the dot-com bubble, raising the risk of a selloff. The share of the top ten stocks on the MSCI USA Index (including all of the so-called Magnificent Seven tech stocks) had risen to 29.3% by the end of December. That’s just moderately below the historical peak share of 33.2% back in June 2000. While parallels between the current environment and the speculative frenzy surrounding internet stocks are frequently dismissed, the JPMorgan strategists say the circumstances “are far more similar than one may think.”

Thanks for the explanation. Re the stock market. What I was mentioning was related to the futures markets gold USD and rates. So maybe they are similar to stock traders. But we all know, the big pigs at the trough like JP Morgan Chase etc, that like to do what tptb want them to do. Like shorting or selling some thing that they don’t really have.

Here’s the longer version of both 10 am rule or closing. Good for some day traders if they have fast platforms preferably level two. Occasionally I justed it during a peak before a target price sell or the observe to gauge a normal range when deciding stops even if manual depending on percentage you choose. Since it’s just a hobby when I’m paying attention you can try things you wouldn’t normally do to test a hypothesis.

He’s getting shorter and shorter gamma ( or premium) and will add to the numbskulls who will either have to buy more and more as the markets go up, or sell more and more as the markets go down, just to hedge themselves.

Really? In summary it’s early morning volatility plus safe guarding things like market makers and chasing stocks. You can use it for your benefit too depending but don’t believe I ever have. I have made bids early and came back at 10 to make sure they filled.

I can only surmise that the buyer of those upside OTM TQQQ calls, either is short gamma and is protecting his position from an upside squeeze, or knows others who are short gamma and wants to participate in the Tom foolery that is called a “market”

Actually they showed up at exactly 10:00 am. The US dollar and interest rates bounced up. They saw that $20 gain in Gold and took action. They simply do not want Gold above $2100, because if it does breakout and close above $2100, it will just keep going. They’ve been bashing Gold all the time and its at $2050 per ounce now. Chart below shows an intra day price of $2150. Its all climbing highs and climbing lows.
I just hope there’s an election in the US … a fair one.
