Markets seem a little confused, underwhelming response so far. Dollar up a little. PM’s and SM down a little. Not much though and mostly bouncing around the flatline.

Regardless, doesn’t look like anything that will take us above $2500. Although, as I type, there’s a bit of a bounce and we’ve taken out the morning lows.

Who knows? Everything looks pretty well managed. 9 am in twenty minutes will probably tell the story.

CPI and maybe more importantly retail sales.

Everything is sort of hugging the flatline at the moment, waiting for the news to see which way Aladdin will take ALL markets.

PM shares are steady. GFI is notable and up near 5% after getting the obligatory whack for having the nerve to buy Osisko. They deal may just set off a flurry of other deals, and they paid a decent premium. GFI is going much higher IMHO when things really get going, and they have been lagging the rest of the majors, in part because of troubles with one of their mines. When they finally start firing on all cylinders, they will perform every bit as well as the other majors.

Another couple hours and the tone will be set for the day.

Hoping to see gold breach $2500 this week. If so, there will be a nasty fight and much weeping and gnashing of teeth.

So, oil and pm’s were weaker today in a “risk on” play because the war has ended in the Middle East. Couldn’t figure out why pm’s were down all day with the dollar and rates down. Oil either, LOL

Dollar is starting to tumble a bit now.

Most of the silver shares I track are rolling pretty good. AG, EXK, SSRM. Beaten up stuff. Looking at deer79’s Eloro up 5% but there’s no volume in any of them really. Aladdin games? Or is silver about to bust a nut?

No that’s when rates go down, in response to macro weakness.

And administered rates follow market rates (which of course means we don’t actually need parasitic central banks)

Like I said yesterday, look for a cycle top in September, basically in conjunction with all the BRICs related buying being done for a while ahead of the meetings in Fall. (and if the macro is under pressure)

The inverse head and shoulder’s patterns across the sector say don’t trade such a top, because it likely won’t last long, but what the hell do I know right now.

Breakouts could come first, with back-tests then, but again, what the hell do I know.

I could see that. A lot of uncertainty out there could hit the SM at any time I suppose. It’s hard to see a big correction going into an easing cycle though, which seems to clearly be coming. OTOH, I guess they could sell the easing news over concern of recession or any other excuse, rigged elections, WWIII.

PM’s correcting with it makes sense too. There’s still no stampede into the sector. No volume in anything, especially share related or GLD, SLV.

The ratios signaling the PM bull is back on are close to breaking out.

That’s why some shares – primarily the larger shares – have been performing well.

If history is a good guide, what will happen over the next several months is stocks will get hit into fall, dragging all commodities including PMs down with them to some extent.

But when we come out on the other side, in November most likely, the monetary metals should lead, breaking key intermarket/sector ratios out in favor of the larger commodity complex.

All PM subgroups should catch a bid (developers, explorers, etc.) at this time because the feds will need to turn the screws in monetary debasement rates profoundly once again.

Silver should really light up under such circumstances.

We are only a few months away from this time now.
