Cold Front and Winter Storm Keep Mexico Chilled
The SMN indicated that the cold front number 10 will extend over the southeast of the country and the Yucatan Peninsula, and an intense mass of polar air will cover a large part of the Mexican territory.
Snow or sleet will continue to fall in mountainous areas of the states of Hidalgo, Tlaxcala, State of Mexico, Mexico City, Veracruz, Puebla and Oaxaca in its Sierra Norte.
The phenomenon will also cause intense to severe cold and strong winds, with gusts of wind of more than 90 kilometers per hour, in the south of Veracruz, the Isthmus, and the Gulf of Tehuantepec as well as very strong storms along the coast of Tamaulipas, Tabasco and on the Yucatan Peninsula.
Strong winds with gusts exceeding 70 kilometers are expected in the Baja California Peninsula and Sonora, while the states of Michoacan, Guerrero and Oaxaca are likely to have strong storms for a short period.
According to the forecast for Thursday, the mass of polar air will begin to weaken, but will keep much of the Mexican territory cold, with frosts, in the north, center and east of the country, dense banks of fog and haze in the northeast, center and east of the country.
The minimum temperatures on Thursday are expected to drop to -5 degrees Celsius in Sonora, Chihuahua, Durango, Zacatecas, Coahuila and Nuevo Leon.
Faced with such weather conditions, authorities advised the population to take precautions, because fog and fog banks could reduce visibility and influence vehicle traffic.
They also asked the population to wear warm clothes, stay hydrated and give special attention to children and sick and elderly people.
