If Chile does compensate the owners of the mines then I’d be very surprised if they did so at a fair price. The mines there are worth a boatload and I doubt they could really afford to pay a fair price.
Then there is the problem of management. How good are govs at managing mines? Would these jobs be political plums? Would the miners then get prohibitively high wages from the leftist government? How would the gov be able to get any more investments in other industries? How would they deal with the plethora of lawsuits relating to the seizures?
This idea sounds like a can of worms to me!
