You mentioned your historic home – several centuries old . Is there no way to have it declared a national landmark and immune from recent (likely temporary) mandates ? Fools write the rules !
I had a colleague in Brussels in the latter 70’s who invited us to his weekend place which sounds similar , located in Margate . A sort of row house , about four units with a side lot on which was an ancient Oak – I believe that tree was well over 500 years old . A storm brought it down about a decade ago , sadly .
Lost him to cancer less than a year ago .
I truly hope that you can retain the authenticity of that dwelling .
