OMG, what has happened to downtown Seattle?

In 1972 I lived in Redmond and worked as Assistant GA (General Agent) in Seattle for a major insurance company in preparation for moving to Alaska as the Alaska state GA.. I occasionally walked those downtown Seattle streets with the GA and there was no sign of any deterioration or slum condition then; just a very well kept and prosperous city. What Happened?
