Loading ...Back in the day of using film for chest X-rays , they would have to use a second plate to get the lower lobes . I grew up next to Lake Huron . My h.s. buddies would have contests with me to see who could swim the farthest underwater , then accuse me of cheating and coming up for air because I would go twice as far as they could. (They were smokers , but my real advantage was lung capacity , a slender build for better hydrodynamics , and slightly webbed hands.)
I could hold my breath for well over two minutes with ease from childhood , and once held a sustained note on the clarinet for close to 5 minutes . But that is cheating – blowing a note creates backpressure in the lungs which increases the gas transfer into the bloodstream .
IPSO I have oversized lungs , so found it easy to exceed 10
