Buygold I guess you are OK. I hope Moggy survived in Northern Georgia. It rolled right over her location. Martin Armstrong posted pix of grey skies and called Helene ‘Fake News’. Obviously he was far enough away. Another correspondent I follow lives in Tampa and thought his rental house had never had a problem. The surge in Tampa Bay rolled into his house knee deep and ruined a lot of his stuff. Packed what he has into a rental truck and is now looking for a new home.
I could never live in Florida, knowing the place is only a few feet above sea level and these massive hurricanes roll over it and flood everything. I have hurricanes here at the Big Island, but they cannot come ashore. The 13,000 ft mountains wall literally bounces them to one side or another, so we don’t get the destructive eye wall winds. But those mountains also scrape the circulating precipitation off the storm and it floods us. I’ve seen 54 inches in 24 hours. But it drains off the rocks here. We don’t have lowlands. Pretty much rocky wall shorelines, so tidal storm surge is not a factor here. But Florida creeps me out.
