not true!
the court found that corporations were “persons.”
this difference is critical if you consider the wording of the fourteenth amendment, to wit:
“…nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws…”
the finding that corporations were “persons” is not new. it has been so for centuries, extending back into english common law upon which united states jurisprudence is based.
the only new concept in citizens united was the concept that “speech” in the first amendment included paying a spokesperson.
